1. Ghana – Accra 

Ghana decides 2024  

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan leads West African Elders Forum to observe Ghana’s 2024 elections and John Dramani Mahama says he will only accept election results If they’re transparent and fair. 

2. Namibia – Windhoek  

Radical shift' promised by Namibia's first woman president amid disputed election 

Namibia's first woman president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah yesterday said her victory in a disputed vote last week had broken a "glass ceiling". 

The vice-president secured just past 57% of the vote, well ahead of the candidate for the main opposition Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) on 25.5%, the election authority announced on Tuesday. 

Yet the IPC has said it did not recognise the vote, pointing to a "multitude of irregularities". 

3. North Sudan- South Sudan-  

El Burhan Visits South Sudan unannounced   'To Discuss Four Critical Files' with Salva Kirr Myardit 

Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan, president of Sudan's Sovereignty Council and commander-in-chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), arrived in Juba, capital of South Sudan, yesterday, to discuss "critical issues regarding the relations between the two countries". 

4. Algeria–South Africa diplomatic relations as President Matamela Ramaphosa is on working state visit to Algeria  

The political relations between Algeria and South Africa officially started in the 1950s and 1960s. The bond formed around their respective internal conflicts that were repeatedly neglected by the United Nations Security Council.

While most eyes were on Thabazimbi on Wednesday, there were six other by-elections. The IFP had a very good hold in Mtubatuba, while the ANC and the DA swapped seats in two other by-elections. The Patriotic Alliance retained a seat in Oudtshoorn while the ANC was dominant in the Eastern Cape.
