The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a US$20 million Trade Finance Transaction Guarantee for Access Bank Zambia Limited in a move expected to boost access to trade finance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the country.

The facility, which marks the first partnership between the AfDB and Access Bank Zambia, reportedly forms part of the Bank’s broader Trade Finance Program that has supported more than $13.8 billion in trade volumes across 129 financial institutions on the continent since 2013.

As climate change continues to wreak havoc across Africa, leaders attending the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, have sounded the alarm.

They say extreme weather events and rapid urbanisation are outpacing their ability to respond to the crisis, and that the money to fix it is just not there.

The forum brought together government leaders, urban planners, researchers, and development partners from 176 countries to discuss housing challenges affecting billions of people.

Ghana begins repatriation of citizens from South Africa amid tensions

The first group of around 300 Ghanaian nationals departed from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday as Ghana began a voluntary repatriation programme for citizens wanting to leave South Africa amid growing anti-immigrant tensions.

Another group was expected to leave on Sunday.

Families and travellers gathered at the airport with luggage trolleys and suitcases as officials and police coordinated the departure process.
