Gauteng and Free State residents have been urged to significantly cut down on their water usage. This as the Lesotho Highlands Water Project which supplies water to Gauteng has been temporarily shut down for inspection and maintenance.

Today Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane released a number of investigative reports which included the case of former Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini. The case is in relation to the Sassa Cash Paymaster Services. The DA’s Bridget Masango had previously laid a complaint following claims that the former minister knew Sassa wasn't equipped to take over from CPS in July 2015 already.

Parliament has announced a seven-week extension to the closing date for written submissions on the National Health Insurance Bill. The Portfolio Committee on Health has over the past weeks received requests from stakeholders and individuals, appealing for the extension of the closing date.

Post its NEC meeting, today the ruling African National Congress released a statement on its plan for economic recovery. Speaking during the press briefing which was held at Luthuli House about three hours ago, ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule said they reached agreements on how macroeconomic policy could support job creation, a reimagined industrial strategy and the importance of investment in infrastructure.

The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has ordered that Mbalenhle Ntuli, an inmate at Johannesburg Medium C prison, be allowed to use his laptop without a modem in his single cell. Advocate Kutlwano Motla, representing the Department of Correctional Services and the prison, argued that inmates should not be allowed to have a computer in their cells because it was a security risk. But, acting judge Matsemala said the prison policy that bans the use of laptops in single cells was an infringement of inmates' right to study freely.

Teaching and learning has been disrupted at Tiphembeleni Primary school in Kanyamazane outside Mbombela in Mpumalanga. This after parents ordered learners to vacate the school and go home. The parents are concerned about the dilapidated state of the school. They claim the school built in the early 70s is no longer safe for the learners. One of the parents, May Lubambo says the Department of Education promised to build a new school in 2015.
