Malawi Elections – what we know so far: Earlier this week, the Malawian Electoral Commission (MEC) declared incumbent Peter Mutharika as winner in a hotly contested presidential race. A High Court lifted an injunction allowing the MEC to announce final results of the poll on Monday. Mutharika secures his second and final term as president. He has since been sworn in at a ceremony in the city of Blantyre.

An investigation by Scorpio has revealed that money stolen from VBS Mutual Bank funded the EFF's fourth birthday bash in 2017 at Eyadini in Durban. According to Daily Maverick, this forms part of a chunk of the illegal R16.1m Brian Shivambu’s (Floyd Shivambu’s brother) company Sgameka Projects received from VBS that was ultimately channelled to the EFF.
