Police Minister Bheki Cele has conceded that promotions in the police service are long overdue. He was addressing the media following the reported threats of a national by members of the police force starting on Monday next week, over a lack of promotions. Police unions POPCRU and SAPU have distanced themselves from the looming strike. Cele says it would take three financial years to promote all 45-thousand members of the police force.

Companies are not complying with the national minimum wage will be named and shamed by the Department of Labour from later this month
Various industries have been identified as problem areas.

CCMA Legal Researcher Wilbur van Niekerk said there was a growing trend used by employers of using every trick in the book not to comply with labour laws. He also said of growing concern the unilateral change of conditions of employment.

The National Minimum Wage Act came into effect on 01 January 2019. In terms of the NMW Act no worker should earn below the R20 minimum wage per hour
