The DA’s GNU negotiator, Tony Leon says if DA ministers are not allowed to exercise authority effectively - the party can exit the GNU. While Cabinet Ministers were sworn in today, Gauteng residents still don’t have an executive after the ANC and DA could not reach an agreement.

Action SA Joburg caucus put out a statement earlier today stating that the party rejects the unjustified new electricity service charges imposed on Johannesburg residents by City Power following a Council sitting where they were outvoted, leading to what the party calls an adoption of senseless charges in April 2024. The statement further states that, despite the party’s efforts to put the interests of all residents first, particularly those from low-income households, political parties including the ANC, EFF, PA, Al-Jamah-ah, AIC, AHC, APC, ATM, Cope, and Good supported the imposition of a fixed monthly service charge of R200 on residents.
