There are concerns about possible election related violence in the 2024 National and Provincial elections. Political party fragmentation, inter party competition and political gangsterism, that have led to a rise in assassinations, contribute to these fears. In 2020, South Africa adopted a Nation Action Plan (NAP) on Women Peace and Security (2020-2025). This NAP calls for greater participation of women in peace and security decision-making, conflict prevention, peacebuilding and governance. The WEMP is a conflict prevention instrument that trains women in conflict analysis, management and mediation and deploys women as peace monitors pre, during and post elections.

Zimbabwe’s telecommunications regulator has approved the licensing of Elon Musk’s Starlink. President Emmerson Mnangagwa said in a statement. The decision “is expected to result in the deployment of high speed, low cost, LEO (low-Earth-orbit) internet infrastructure throughout Zimbabwe and particularly in all the rural areas,” A World Bank report in 2021 said only 34.8% of Zimbabwe’s population had access to the internet.

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will once again be part of the South African elections, utilising its election night prediction model for the 2024 national and provincial elections. This model was first introduced by the CSIR during the 1999 general elections. During the last 10 South African elections, specifically the 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019 national elections, as well as the 2000, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021 municipal elections, the CSIR employed a statistical model to predict the election outcomes at various levels, such as national, provincial and municipal.
