The Senzo Meyiwa trial has adjourned until Wednesday. The state has submitted bank transactions which prove that accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, was in Gauteng the year the Bafana Bafana captain was murdered. Sibiya is part of five men who are on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the murder of Meyiwa who was shot and killed in 2014. Sibiya initially claimed he was not in Gauteng when Meyiwa was murdered. State prosecutor Ronnie Sibanda submitted the bank transactions which state otherwise. So it appears that certain political parties are not complying with the Political Parties Funding Act (PPFA). Recently, the Electoral Court ordered several political parties to pay fines for failing to provide audited financial statements to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC). We understand that non-compliance by registered political parties is aggravating because these parties receive funding under the Funding Act.

Tributes are pouring in for Justice Yvonne Mokgoro who passed away yesterday. You may recall that Justice Mokgoro was involved in a serious car accident near Kimberley in April last year, something that completely changed her life health-wise. In 1994 she became the first black woman judge in the country and in 2015, she was inducted as a member of the Order of the Baobab in Bronze for her excellent contribution to the field of law and administration of justice in a democratic South Africa. Joining us to pay tribute to her is Justice Zak Yacoob, retired judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa.
