Three women have been murdered in Bloemfontein in two separate incidents. Police said one of the victims was found inside a pit toilet in an informal settlement on Christmas Day after officials received a tip-off. The victim was found wrapped in tape and buried in mud. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder. In a separate incident, two women were found dead in their home last week. The postmortem results showed that one was strangled to death while the other was poisoned.

It is a bleak Christmas for residents in Cape Town after a fire gutted an informal settlement leaving 400 people with only the clothes on their backs.

The fire was raging for hours as strong winds made it difficult for firefighters to bring it under control. Residents could be seen standing on the roofs of houses with hosepipes trying to assist as well as trying to prevent it from spreading to the houses right behind the informal settlement.

Four civilians sustained burn wounds but refused further medical treatment after being assessed on-site. A fifth civilian suffered a seizure and was taken to hospital.

A truck carrying petrol and diesel exploded on the N2 north, near Edwin Swales Drive, south Durban, on Sunday. According to the driver, the trailer had a rear tyre burst which seemed to have caused the explosion. 

 In a separate incident two vehicles were involved in a crash on the N3 near Ladysmith. Five people were killed and two were critically injured, including a young child, according to IPSS Medical Rescue.

The newly formed Umkhonto Wesizwe party is questioning the ANC’s motive in relation to the issue of intellectual property matter over allegations of trademark infringement. The ANC is adamant that the MK party’s use of a logo and name similar to their own, constitutes a violation of the Trademarks Act.
