The Financial Sector Conduct Authority has cancelled the exchange licence of JSE competitor ZAR X following what it calls a prolonged non-compliance by the trading platform. ZAR X’s licence was suspended in 2021 after concerns over its liquidity. The cancellation of the licence means it has to stop all trading. ZAR X launched as an alternative platform to the JSE in 2017. For more on that, we’re now joined by Financial Sector Conduct Authority Deputy Commissioner, Astrid Ludin.

Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane is finally off the hook. The Bhisho High Court has set aside a report by the public protector that found Mabuyane to have irregularly benefitted from funds meant for the late Winnie Madikizela Mandela’s memorial service. The court has found the report unlawful. We’re now joined by Legal Analyst, Modidima Mannya.

At least 21 people died in Limpopo when a tour bus and a cash-in-transit van collided on the N1 in Makhado. The bus rolled several times from a bridge and landed in a river. 68 passengers were injured and some were still unaccounted for when emergency services arrived on the scene. South Africa has seen significant rainfall amounts the last few days and further severe impacts may occur. Also according to the South African Weather Service, persistent and heavy downpours are expected to continue especially over the Lowveld and along the escarpment areas of both Limpopo and Mpumalanga for which an Orange level 9 warning was issued yesterday.

The department of education in the Western Cape says taxi associations have been trying to extort money from scholar transport drivers. Education MEC, David Maynier says over 50% of learners from at Academia Primary School in Cape Town were prevented from going to school. The department says scholar transport drivers have been getting threats and being harassed to prevent them from transporting learners as tensions in the province’s transport industry rise.
