The latest statistics released by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment show 40% decrease in the number of Rhino poached in the Kruger National Park in 2022 compared to 2021. The Kruger National Park has previously been a hotspot for rhino poaching, however, poachers are now targeting KZN parks. The province lost 244 rhinos and 16 of those were in privately owned reserves. Minister Barbara Creecy says there has been collaboration between conservation authorities, the police, revenue authorities and international agencies in the fight against rhino poaching.
