The ANC has presented a list of its National Executive Committee that will be taking the party forward for the next five years. The party recently concluded its national elective conference where it elected its top 7, led by president Cyril Ramaphosa. ANC’s electoral committee chairperson, Kgalema Motlanthe says voting took place yesterday and over four thousand delegates cast their votes.

The National Energy Regulator has been granted an extension to make a decision on Eskom’s application to hike its tariff by 32% in April next year. The extension follows after the court had ordered the energy regulator to make the decision on Eskom’s application on or before the 24th of December. The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has extended the deadline to the 12th of January 2023. Eskom is also requesting a further 9.4%.

The deployment of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) at four Eskom power stations has been received with mixed reaction, with some experts arguing that SANDF doesn’t have capacity to protect Eskom power plants.

Now that the new leadership has been elected – what next for the ruling ANC? When delivering the party's oganisational report on Saturday – the former deputy president of the party, David Mabuza revealed that the ANC is experiencing a crisis threatening its existence. In addition to that, it is public knowledge that the ANC declined from 62% in 2014 to 57% in 2018 and also took a battering in the 2021 local government elections. So is the new leadership capable of arresting the decline? UNICEF South Africa is calling for additional funding from national and provincial governments to deal with the outbreak of measles in South Africa. The department of Health says the number of confirmed cases has risen to 169 in four provinces. The number is expected to increase during the festive season. 44% of the confirmed cases affect children between five and nine years old, while 28% of them affect 1-4 year olds and the remainder is among people between the age of 10 and 42.
