The issue of violence in schools is back in the headlines again. Three matriculants from Selborne College in the Eastern Cape face assault charges after attacking a group of 11 grad 8 pupils. The three matriculants allegedly armed themselves with cricket bats, assaulted the group of 14-year-olds in the early hours of Sunday, after an altercation at a farewell celebration for the matriculants. Three of the pupils were hospitalised due to injuries. The three accused will appear in court when they finish writing exams. Earlier on today, the electoral committee of the ANC led by former President Kgalema Motlanthe announced the outcomes of the branch nominations for the top six positions. President Cyril Ramaphosa has got the overwhelming majority of nominations from the ANC branches across the country. However, David Mabuza, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Lindiwe Sisulu did not receive enough nominations to be on the ballot paper.

Ratings agency, S&P says South Africa’s economic and fiscal reforms have potential to improve its medium-term growth and debt trajectory. The agency had moved South Africa’s credit rating from stable to positive in May, it has now maintained the positive outlook. There are still warnings though, the agency says South Africa is still contending with slow global economic growth. What should we make of this? The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein says it is up to the Correctional Services Commissioner to determine whether or not the former president Jacob Zuma should be taken back to prison to serve the remainder of his prison sentence. Earlier on today, the SCA upheld the High Court order which declared Zuma's release on medical parole irrational, unlawful and unconstitutional.

Eastern Cape mother who allegedly killed her four children has died. According to the information at this stage, she died while still in police custody on Sunday afternoon. Apparently, she reported to the police that she was not feeling well, bud did not say what the nature of the sickness was. She was then immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, where she allegedly died. The cause of death is yet to be established. For more on this, we are joined by…..
