The South African National Parks (SANParks) is increasing surveillance at Kruger National Park entry gates as part of the festive season anti-crime prevention. According to Kruger National Park, there will also be increased spot checks of vehicles inside the park to check for amongst others, park offences such as contraband and verification of identities booking receipts of occupants inside vehicles. THE INNERVIEW: The ANC has backtracked on its suggestion that it was considering selling packages to media houses to cover their elective conference in December. In an interview with SABC, ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe said the party would not be making the media pay to gain access to the conference, however, media houses would be liable for the costs of some of their needs if they are beyond what the party is offering. The party has now retracted that, it says there will be no payments. Let’s listen to what Mabe said yesterday and at the back of that, we will speak to SANEF Media Freedom Chair, Makhudu Sefara and Angelo Fick, Director of Research at the Auwal Socio-Economic Research Institute. 

The South African Human Rights Commission says it has received complaints with regards to comments made by EFF leader, Julius Malema. Malema allegedly made comments following a racism incident at Brackenfell High School. Among other things, Malema allegedly said “you must never be scared to kill, a revolution demands that at some point there must be killing, because the killing is a part of a revolutionary act”…the commission also makes reference to posters of the EFF with messages like “Honeymoon is Over for white people in South Africa. The commission says these messages incite violence and the party must retract them within 10 days and apologise and if not, the matter will be escalated to the Equality Court.

The nominations process ahead of the ANC’s conference has officially closed. The party is now preparing for the conference that will take place from the 16th to the 20th of December.  Party leadership says it is ready as 85% of all branches qualify to be part of the conference. Eastern Cape police have arrested a mother for allegedly killing her four children with a hammer. Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the bodies of the children, aged between two and 11, were found this morning in the rondavel where they were sleeping with their 32-year-old mother. A lot has happened this week on social media, a sexually explicit video of Free State Legislature’s speaker, Zanele Sifuba was leaked allegedly by a man who was trying to extort money from her. In another story, as Sonia Booth, the wife of soccer legend Matthew Booth shared details of his alleged infidelity, people started sharing photographs of him and the woman he is accused of cheating with. The photographs were taken without his consent. All of this is a violation of people’s right to privacy, so what are the legal options when something like this happens and how serious is the crime of leaking someone’s sex tape or sharing someone’s photographs that you took without consent? We are now joined by Justine Limpitlaw, specialist electronic communications law consultant. 

Almost half of South African youth say climate concerns are making them reconsider starting a family. This was revealed in UNICEF South Africa’s latest U-Report poll. The report also highlights 61% of respondents have considered moving to another part of the country to try and avoid the climate change impact in the areas where they live, like drought, floods and pollution. The report was released as youth took the floor at Cop27 in Egypt yesterday to raise concerns that will affect them in the future.
