A victory in the ongoing fight against gender based violence. A man known as Jaco ‘Hooligan’ Swartz has pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm following several attacks on his wife Nicoleen Swartz. The case was truck off the roll in 2021, however there is video footage showing Swartz viciously attacking his wife, sometimes in front of their children. The matter was then pursued by Afriforum’s Private Prosecution and presented to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and the matter was heard again. We are now joined by Barry Bateman, Afriforum’s Private Prosecution Unit Communications Manager.

Will President Cyril Ramaphosa appear before parliament’s ethics committee? Shocking revelations were made by former intelligence boss, Arthur Fraser who laid money-laundering, corruption and kidnapping charges against Ramaphosa. Fraser says a robbery took place at his property in Limpopo where criminals allegedly took off with millions of dollars in cash. Ramaphosa confirmed the robbery indeed took place, but said the amount was way less than what Fraser estimated. The ANC’s National Working Committee met on Monday where Tony Yengeni brought the issue up, suggesting he not only appears before the ANC’s integrity committee, which he is reportedly willing to do, but Parliament’s Ethics Committee as well. What else happened at that NWC meeting?

What exactly does the arrest of fugitives, Atul and Rajesh Gupta in the United Arab Emirates mean? The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services was informed by UAE law enforcement officials that the pair had been arrested after a red Interpol notice was issued. The two are wanted for fraud and money-laundering. They have been implicated by many government officials in state capture and have been on the run in UAE since the news of their dealings broke. The department says it is in dialogue with law enforcement agencies in that country. Does this mean an extradition is on the cards and what will that process look like?

The University of Cape Town has beefed up security following the disruption of exams on Monday by people the university says are neither students nor employees. The disruption happened as part of a protest for insourcing of staff members by the university. A video showing men disrupting exams at UCT has been making rounds on social media since Monday. The men wearing t-shirts with political branding are seen taking students’ exam papers and throwing them on the floor. The university is laying charges against them.

The Special Tribunal has granted an order instructing Hamilton Ndlovu and his companies to pay back more than R160 million to the state. Ndlovu and the businesses scored contracts worth R172 million to provide personal protective equipment during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Ndlovu has also been barred from doing business with the State.

A 17-year-old girl has died after allegedly being assaulted by a pastor near Port Edward on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast. The teenager was one of four girls who were tied up and beaten for four days, because they were accused of being possessed by demons. Last night, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson survived a no-confidence vote, securing enough support from his Conservative Party to remain in office. In a secret ballot, 148 of the 359 Conservative Party lawmakers voted against Johnson. At least 180 would have had to vote against Johnson for him to be removed. Following yesterday’s developments some commentators argue that his authority has been hugely undermined and his days in Downing Street are numbered. One of Gauteng’s most wanted criminal, Mbuso Ndabazovela Biyela has been killed in a shootout with police in a takedown operation of his arrest in Kwa-Zulu-Natal. Biyela is linked to several criminal cases between December 2017 and March 2022, including the murder of a police officer. He had been arrested murders in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in 2020 and 2021, but escaped from custody. For more on that we are joined by Gauteng police Spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Moridili.
