Government has extended the deadline for public consultations regarding new Covid-19 regulations. South African can now continue to make their contributions on the management of the pandemic following the termination of the state of disaster after two years of lockdown. President Ramaphosa had said some provisional regulations will remain in place for 30 days to ensure a smooth transition to new regulations under the National Health Act. What does implementation look like when the 30 days comes to an end? What law will be used to enforce regulations between the end of the 30 days and the beginning of the National Health Act?

Easter Weekend traffic update - In the first Easter Weekend with religious gatherings in two years, authorities are managing the high traffic volumes on our country's roads. Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula highlighted the following roads as the busiest: N1 from Gauteng to Limpopo; N3 from Gauteng to KwaZulu-Natal; N2 from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape; N14 from Gauteng to the North West and N12 from Gauteng to Mpumalanga. Earlier this week, our next guest cautioned motorists who were still planning to travel on the N3 this Easter weekend to be prepared for any travel conditions as traffic volumes were expected to peak today.

The country is grappling with a surge in violence, despite a pledge to silence guns by President Salvar Kiir and Deputy President Riek Machar when they signed a peace pact in 2018. The United Nations says two thirds of the population will need aid to survive. Head of the UN Mission in South Sudan Nicholas Haysom has called on the international community to send more assistance and called on leaders in the country to step up efforts to end the conflict.

Earlier on today, Health Minister Dr. Joe Phaahla announced that public comments on the proposed Covid-19 regulations have been extended until the 24th of April.
