Motorists have been given another two weeks to renew expired driving licence cards, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula made the announcement earlier today. Mbalula also urged motorists to make use of the latest extension as the country’s drivers’ license and testing centres will be open on weekends as well.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions has noted with disappointment the recommendations submitted by the Independent Commission on the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers that all Political Office Bearers should get a 3% salary increase. According to the union, this is a tone deaf and embarrassing recommendation that should be rejected by President Cyril Ramaphosa and South Africans in general.

Today is the last day of the information sharing workshop that is currently underway in Mombasa, Kenya. The workshop focused on challenges and opportunities in forest management for sustainable development in Africa in the context of climate change. In less than 2 hours, the Centre for Sociological Research and Practice (CSRP) will release the launch of its research report titled ‘Energy Racism: The Electricity Crisis in South Africa’. This research was conducted in the Black working-class township of Soweto and sought to explore the experiences, responses and solutions of members of this community to the energy crisis in South Africa. The researchers found a situation whereby Black working-class communities are bearing the burden of the electricity crisis; and that there are more continuities than discontinuities of oppression, exploitation, misery and suffering like in the apartheid bin.

The ANC Women’s League President Bathabile Dlamini gave an exclusive interview to the SABC News team and she says she will step aside from her position should she be requested to do so by the ANC’s top officials. Though the ANC has a standing resolution that all members facing criminal charges must step aside, pending the finalisation of their cases and those convicted must resign, Dlamini has not been suspended nor has she resigned. Earlier this month, she was convicted of perjury following the 2017 inquiry into social grants at SASSA.
