The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in Limpopo is accusing the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) of being selective in its investigations of state entities in the province that have been implicated in fraud and corruption related to the procurement and distribution of personal protective equipment, arguing that by so doing, the SIU is contravening its Constitutional mandate and the terms of reference of the Presidential Proclamation R23 of 2020. However, the SIU has rejected these claims saying that they are baseless and misleading.

Umalusi, the council in charge of quality assurance for education in South Africa has approved the release of the 2020 Matric results, despite leaks that occurred during the exam period. According to them, there were no systemic irregularities reported which might have undermined the overall credibility and integrity of the exams.

The Zondo Commission will recommend to the Constitutional Court that former president Jacob Zuma be imprisoned for contempt of court for defying an order by the higest court forcing him to appear before the commission. The Chairperson of the Commission Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said that if Zuma is allowed to ignore his summons to appear there will be lawlessness and chaos in the courts with being used as a precedent by other witnesses. Zuma failed to appear before the Commission this morning. The former president furnished the commission with a letter through his lawyers allerting it that he will not appear this week. Zondo say Zuma had no valid or sound reason for not appearing. Meanwhile the son of Zuma, Edward says his father will not appear before the commission until Zondo recuses himself...

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has been criticized on social media for reportedly saying an "educated man won't rape" during one of her address to pupils at a school in Pretoria today. Motshekga was among government officials who visited schools across the country on the first day of the 2021 academic year, to check on the resumption of classes. The eleventh suspect didn't appear in court today due to illness.
