The Construction, Mining, Energy and Engineering Workers Union (COMEEWU) has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa asking him to restructure his economic recovery plan to be a time based solution. The relatively new union which represents over 3500 members say President Ramaphosa needs to help workers understand what his plan is to restore the loss of income and prevent further job shedding. COMEEWU has also asked why the government is so reliant on international communities in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, instead of working closely with local scientists and medical researchers. Last week, the South African Weather Service warned about the possibility of heavy downpours in some parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga and northern KwaZulu-Natal. A lot has happened since then and a lot of people have lost their homes. In Northern KwaZulu-Natal for instance, fifty homesteads have been severally impacted by disruptive rainfall. In Mpumalanga, videos and pictures showing the aftermath of the downpour have been shared on social media and places like Lydenburg were not spared. So what can we expect in the next couple of days weather-wise and are the affected provinces well equipped to respond to the heavy downpours?
