In this episodes the fellas look back on one year in the pandemic. For many of us the last thing we did before the world came to a halt was go to a live show. The pandemic has been hard on all of us in so many ways, but has hit small businesses especially hard and music venues are no exception. In order to pay respect to venues who have closed their doors for good and to highlight those still fighting to stay open, we dive into our favorite venues and most memorable shows at that venue. In the second episode we dive into West African contemporary rock. This segment is guaranteed to have some of the sickest guitar licks you have heard in a long time. In this week's episode the fellas continue their celebration of Black History Month with and in-depth look at The Chitlin' Circuit. The Chitlin' Circuit was a series of venues predominantly in the South. These venues were mostly black owned and operated and provided a place for black musicians to play during Jim Crow while they were excluded from many of the nations white owned venues. The Chitlin' Circuit is another example of how black people in America used art, creativity, and entrepreneurship as a form of resistance. We hope you enjoy learning about the background of The Chitlin' Circuit and hear some of its greatest performers.

February 10, 2021 04. Black Owned Record Labels and International Protest Music
Welcome back to the lounge! This week's format is slightly different. We will continue with our regular long form format including the weeks democratically elected theme in the first round and genre of choice in the second round. However, going forward the final round that featured new music and criticism will be released as a new segment called Last Call.
This week at the lounge the fellas kick off Black History Month, although its the Lounge's stance that black excellence should be celebrated everyday. In the first round we start with a celebration of black owned record labels. Next, we expand on a previously unrecorded session and get into the world of international protest music that is closely linked to decolonization movements that developed post WWII.
