Tom Gage covered the Detroit Tigers beat for the Detroit News from 1979 to 2014. In 2015, Gage was elected the 2015 winner of the J.G. Taylor Spink Award by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. The longtime chairman of the Detroit Chapter of the BBWAA, Gage also serves on the screening committee that formulates the annual Hall of Fame ballot. The 1984 World Series MVP, Alan Trammell was a six-time All-Star while playing for the Detroit Tigers from 1977-1996. He resides in Detroit, Michigan.

Today, the Senate Education Committee passed SB 494 banning “ghost teachers” who drain resources from public schools to work full-time for teachers’ unions.

A Commonwealth Foundation analysis of Pennsylvania’s 500 school district contracts reveals up to 198 former district employees may work full-time for the teachers’ union while remaining on public payroll.

These ghost teachers are teachers in name only; many haven’t taught in decades and will never return to the classroom. In some cases, ghost teachers receive taxpayer-funded salaries, gain seniority, and accrue pension and health benefits while working for a private organization. This practice is sometimes called “release time” or "union release."

“This is a blatant misuse of resources meant to educate children,” commented James Paul, senior policy analyst for the Commonwealth Foundation. “The full senate should act on this legislation to ensure every public education dollar is benefitting students, not special interests.”

Hannah Simone is a British-Canadian television hostess, actress, and former fashion model. From May 2006 to November 2008, she worked as a VJ for MuchMusic in Canada, and is best known for portraying Cece Parekh on the Fox sitcom New Girl. 

Hosted by Hannah Simone, KICKING & SCREAMING is a new competition series that teams 10 expert survivalists with pampered partners to face the toughest challenges of their lives.
