Question 1: What is the relationship between time management and academic success?

Question 2:  What has been the nature of neoliberal globalization in a developed society such as the US or UK versus the developing such as Jamaica, Ghana etc. & what accounts for the contrast of experiences of poverty/inequality?

Segment 1: What is the relationship between time management and Academic Success?

It is said that life is short and time's limited. So, time is the most valuable and priceless thing in our lives, as it is the space within which we operate and conduct the entirety of our lives. This involves a plethora and myriad of stimuli coming at us in order to realize the zenith of our life. As such, time management becomes paramount as it is an excellent tool and skill for directing and guiding one’s life’s activities; so as, to minimize time wasting and the distractions that pose threats to the realization of one’s academic goals; because life is short and time is limited. Yet, most of us take time management for granted. In fact, research shows that students who utilized effective time management skills, usually take it with them throughout their academic and professional life and realize greater success and less burn out and distractions (Source). Hence, Time Management is a vital skill and activity within learning strategy that may help to realize successful completion of one’s academic goals.

Segments 2 and 3: Sharing the Journey Part 2: 

The Masters project paper examined whether or not Jamaica’s inequality trends from 1985 – 2007 was a consequence of the structural adjustment policies stipulated by the neo-liberal technocrats of the ‘Washington Consensus’ on Jamaica. We began this examination by questioning the premise on which this variable lies: Neo-Liberalism creates inequality and poverty. Having established that “neoliberalism” creates inequality and poverty, we then asked ourselves, why and how the Jamaican government adopted and implemented structural adjustment policies by tracing the evolution of structural adjustment policies. Thirdly, we examined the results/implications of structural adjustment on Jamaica by presenting and analyzing Jamaica’s income inequality and poverty trends. Finally, we assess whether or not these trends correlate with our assertions. Unlike the Graduate programs at Penn that I completed previously, the PHD in Communication at the Annenberg will explore post-industrial experience of neoliberal globalization on the working class and their response. Essentially, we want to know what has been the nature of neoliberal globalization in a developed society such as the United States. How different or similar are the experiences of poverty and inequality in Jamaica and the Caribbean vis-a-viz the United States under neoliberal globalization? And what accounts for these differences? What has been the response or the mitigating factor against neoliberal globalization, and if so, how effective is it? The answer may lie in my anecdotal analysis that requires further investigation:

The decentralization of social media is the greatest victory for peoples in society, especially those that are marginalized and most vulnerable. The people of the global south, black and brown peoples have all suffered under Neoliberal Globalization and strategies of power that poses problems for human progress and people everywhere. Digital technology and the decentralization creates opportunities and greater competition and limits access so that there is this leveling of the playing field. Yet there is this drive to regulate information as the status quo uses countervailing tactics to re-monopolize information so that communication is no longer to make monopoly what was the monopoly.

This may lead us to ask, what is the role of the neoliberal state? See Part 3.

It is said that East Falls is the better places to live in Philly? That's according to one of the many respondents at the East Falls Farmer's Market in Philly where we continued our series looking at Living in Philadelphia, where we ask city residents what's it like living in Philly? We interviewed many of the vendors and patrons at the event and even got a quick interview from David Dettman, the Manager of the East Falls Farmers' Market. This episode is Part 2 of the series and we also interviewed an operator of a Mexican restaurant in West Mt. Airy/Germantown Philadelphia called Mi Puebla and the stopped at the Men Who Care of Germantown Food Distribution to get a quick word from a patron and to observe the exchanges.

We are doing a new series where we engage people in communities and cities by interviewing random individuals in various city neighborhoods asking that question. Today we feature Philadelphia, where we took to the streets and interviewed several individuals, young people, couples, men and women, people from all walks of life and demographics; and even young men on the corners, people in the suburbs and well-to-do places and those in the hood. We interviewed, professionals, students, those with and without jobs and people hoping to make it big. It was an extraordinarily interesting podcast episode where people provided diagnosis and prognosis of their city as they reflect on the positives, negatives and challenges of living in Philly. But what is powerful is that people were more than eager to talk about life in the city and seem to have a sense of what has gone wrong and how we can fix it or they wonder how they can. Nevertheless, what was powerful is their need for conversation and community which many feel is a thing of the past or slowly decaying as we lose our sense of brotherly and sisterly love. Question: Was PM Andrew Holness’ Address to the UN General Assembly Inappropriate and Misplaced? 

Recently, Hon. Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, gave a speech to the UN General Assembly in New York, where he said illegal guns usually flow into the hands of marginalized youths in developing countries like Jamaica. But my question is, if the marginalized youths are poor and they cannot afford a legal gun, which for them is the only way out of poverty and provides a sense of power, then how do we expect to effectively stop the spiraling murder wave, reduce gun violence by minimizing the illegal flow of guns to this vulnerable groups without first dealing with their sense of powerlessness and their poverty? Moreover, if illegal guns usually flow into the hands of the poor, that is an observation that has been supported by studies that show the relationship between the gun, the illegal use of it in poor marginalized communities not just in Jamaica, but in black and brown communities all over the world. According to the story in the Jamaica Gleaner, entitled: “Holness enlist UN help to stem influx of illegal guns, murder wave,”

PRIME MINISTER Andrew Holness has called for an international “war on guns” to end the influx of illegal weapons and epidemic of murders in Jamaica. “In the same way that a war on drugs is being prosecuted, in which we have been faithful partners in policing what comes through our waters or leaves our shores, there now needs to be a war on guns.” Holness pleaded as he addressed the 77th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York on Thursday. The Jamaican leader urged for pressure to be placed on international gun manufacturers to institute stronger measures to prevent the illegal flow of weapons into the hands of poor, marginalized youth in developing countries like Jamaica. “In the same way there is concern about illegal drugs on the streets of rich countries, there must be concern about guns on the streets of developing countries like Jamaica,” Holness asserted, (Hinds, L. 2022. This request by the PM seems absolutely ridiculous and inappropriate. It looks childish and pathetic. Jamaica doesn't make its own laws about what comes into its own country. It does not have any control over its importers and suppliers of goods and services? Further, guns don't kill people, people kill people! Moreover, to appeal to rich countries having guns on their streets as a way to provide support for equal cause for concern of guns on Jamaican streets is far-fetched incomparable. How is he here comparing apples with tomatoes? So where does the answer lie? The answer resides in reducing poverty and raising incomes and providing more opportunities. However, this can only happen when Jamaica becomes more competitive and expands its capabilities which will need short term investments over the long-term with some sacrifices coupled with investments in education to make every Jamaica not just literate but competitive. We need to get the diaspora more involved and become more strategic with this endeavor. 

To make a request like this at such an even is a missed opportunity and an inappropriate request. That request can be handled by the local as it is a local issue that speaks to local laws and protections. We need funds  investments to increase Jamaica's capabilities and that is what we should always ask for. Put your priorities where the greatest needs reside.

Question: What's great about events like the G-Town Radio Day of Festival? Local communities continue to facilitate neighborhood engagement and awareness as they transcend the violence and social decay gripping their communities. We visited the G-town Community Radio station 92.9 FM's "Day of Festival", event where they had their annual community event in which local vendors, musicians, business people, professionals and residents came together to share food, fun and fellowship; with music, dance and explosion of talent. The station also opened up their studios to the public. We interviewed some of the station volunteers and staff such as, Joanne the program director and chatted with Tom the manager and a board member. We also learned what locals in Germantown have to offer their city and the world, as we  interviewed and chatted with several local business and shop owners, all women who either participated or visited the event. It was an Amazing day of festival that we caught the end of and was able to file this report. We ended with music from Spiritual Thunder a local band originally from Germantown that ended the show with epic music that we have on the show for you today. 

In the final segment of the show, we sat with the Commissioner of The Real Jersey Shore Yahoo Fantasy NFL League Commissioner, Ricardo McKenzie, who discussed fantasy football and the NFL matchups this week.
