July 01, 2020The Last of Us Part II Spoiler Discussion Featuring My Wife! | TNSS Special
Hello, and welcome back to another new episode of The Nerd Stash Show. For most episodes, the show is hosted by me, Brandon Stephenson, with a panel including Taylor Cole, Johnny Reynolds, and/or Oliver VanDervoort. This time, however, I'm joined by none other than Lauren Stephenson, a.k.a., my better half, a.k.a., the love of my life! Yes, my (non-gaming) wife makes her first appearance on the podcast!
And we've got a good one for you. Like most of the gaming world, I've been playing The Last of Us Part II, and like most of the gaming world, I've completed it. By my side, watching me was Lauren. As we trekked our way through Seattle, we kept bouncing ideas off each other about how the story would play out, share theories about characters, and jumped at the sight of a Stalker or Clicker together. Once we finished, we couldn't stop talking about it (okay, I couldn't stop talking about it!), and on a whim, we decided to put a microphone in front of us and talk about the journey we took.
However, I wouldn't call this a traditional spoilercast. More of a spoiler-filled discussion. Why? Because Lauren happens not to be a gamer. Sure, I've gotten her to play video games before, but she doesn't have the same interest in this hobby as you or I do. During this three-hour(!) episode, we don't spend time discussing the mechanics of the game, and instead, we focus on the story. We talk about the characters, our thoughts and feelings about them, the highs and the lows of The Last of Us Part II. Lauren comes at this from a non-gamer perspective while I come at it from a gamer and a fan's perspective. What follows is perhaps some of my favorite three hours I've gotten to experience.
We wanted this discussion to be fun, and hopefully, that comes across. We dive deep into much of the story, the characters, and some of our final thoughts of The Last of Us Part II. If you want a traditional spoilercast, diving into the mechanics and more, don't worry, there are plans to do that soon.

Hello, and welcome back to another new episode of The Nerd Stash Show! With a lighter crew than usual, there's a lot to talk about this week. But there's one big question needing to be discussed: are games too long? In a sea of 100+ hour RPGs and every developer promising their newest game is "their biggest ever," former Sony executive Shawn Layden, hypothesizes the current model of video game development isn't going to hold in the upcoming generation. Of course, he comes at it from a business perspective -- games costing $150 million over seven years to make, for instance -- and the crew wonders what games could look like if more and more triple-A titles released as 15-hour experiences every couple of years. Plus, our initial thoughts on The Last of Us Part II, Microsoft making the sudden announcement the company is shutting Mixer down, our thoughts on the Marvel's Avengers War Table video, and so much more!

Hello, and welcome back to another episode of The Nerd Stash Show! Sony FINALLY unveiled games coming to the hotly anticipated PlayStation 5 during an hour-long showcase just last night. So, The Nerd Stash Show crew delayed recording, watched the event, and got together shortly after the stream ended to record their fresh thoughts and hot takes on the showcase. The show went a bit longer than initially planned out, but with so much information, we thought it would be best to go over everything as thoroughly as possible.
