Our guest, Courtney Enlow (of Syfy Fangrrls, Pajiba, and more) brought a movie for discussion that was far tougher than either of us realized. Gerald's Game seems like it's going to be a straight thriller movie about a woman (Carla Gugino), who is trapped in handcuffs after her husband (Bruce Greenwood), dies during a sex game. What neither of us could have expected was that the movie would explore sexual violence, trauma, and the monsters who perpetrate them.

I got to chat with director Jed Brian about his debut horror film, Unlisted Owner. We talked about what it was like to make the movie, the criticisms he's gotten about his realistic characters, and what it's taken to break onto the horror charts with an indie found footage film.

I am thrilled to welcome co-host Caroline Diezyn back to the country and back to the podcast.

After two scrapped plans to review crime movies in the past, I finally got the chance to talk about a crime drama with Caroline. Legend tells the true-ish story of Ronnie and Reggie Kray, twin mobsters from the East End of London during the late 1960s. In this telling, the brothers (both played by Tom Hardy) seem impossibly charming but, like with any good gangster movie, have their devious deeds catch up to them.

In telling the story of a woman best known for her live suicide on a news broadcast, Christine ran the risk of being exploitative, even pornographic. But in the hands of lead actor Rebecca Hall and director Antonio Campos, the movie ends up instead as a tribute to the real Christine Chubbuck and a seemingly sincere exploration of why she died when and how she did.

Before that, we also couldn't go without talking about Netflix's latest Marvel series, The Punisher.
