What happened in the past didnt happen to the person we are today, it happened to a younger aspect of us, from a different time.

We only exist in the here and now

We only exist in this present, a gift from God

We carry the memory of what happened to a younger aspect of us, in our history and Sympatry Pains for them, as a show of support and solidarity for what they went through.

But, they went through it, they suffered, endured and survived it; they overcame it, so that we would have a life today beyond their wildest dreams, they did all that for us.

It's only right and proper that we return what is theirs back to them, and step  proudly into the present and embrace it with all our energy and vigor.
