With the 2020 election rapidly approaching many tuned in to the first 2020 presidential debate featuring President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. According to a CBS News poll following the debate, the majority of viewers felt "annoyed" and many Davis students share that displeased sentiment. Also, UC Davis political science lecturer, Isaac Hale, discusses the impact the debate will have on the Nov. election and what viewers should expect to see in future debates this year. There was an outpouring of remembrance and political controversy following Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death on Sept. 18. UC Davis Assistant Professor of Political Science Christopher Hare discusses the impact Ginsburg’s death will have on our current political landscape, especially the upcoming election. The recent racial reckoning and political landscape nationwide is beginning to call present systems and institutions into question. The UC Davis Chief Diversity Officer, Mikael Villalobos, discusses the impact of current events on higher education and the changes the University plans to make in pursuit of diversity, equity and inclusion. Also, the changes Davis High English teachers are making to create a curriculum that encompasses an array of perspectives and increases representation.

As has come to be the annual tradition, California is ablaze. From volunteer firefighters to politicians to students, Davis and the surrounding community members are doing what they can to stop the fires and help the victims.

Online school began for K-12 students across Davis on Wed. 26. Posing a wide range of challenges for students, teachers, counselors, and the district. For students transitioning to a new school, building community is an even greater concern. While teachers at the secondary level are looking to address learning gaps due to a new quarter block schedule.
