On today's podcast:
Venezuela
In Venezuela, the public consultation on the new amnesty law for democratic coexistence is progressing, and it is anticipated that it could be approved in a second reading, possibly on Friday, after having been approved last Thursday by the National Assembly.
Over the weekend, communal peace judges joined the consultation process, participating in territorial debates as part of the expanded dialogue that the Parliamentary Commission is carrying out before the final debate on the law.
Portugal
In Portugal, the former socialist minister Antonio Jose Seguro won the runoff of the presidential elections against the far-right leader Andre Ventura by a decisive 2-1 margin. Seguro's victory marks the return of a left-wing figure to the presidency of Portugal, 20 years after Jorge Sampaio left office in 2006.
United States
And in the United States, Puerto Rican singer Bud Bunny, recent Grammy winner for Best Album and an outspoken critic of trans-immigration policies, turned his appearance at yesterday's Super Bowl, which was watched by more than 120 million viewers, into a political and cultural act.
He sang exclusively in Spanish, celebrated Latino culture in the U.S., and directly denounced ICE, La Migra, as a symbol of immigration persecution.
Banners against ICE and Trump's immigration policies were seen in the stands, a striking image of the rejection that his brutal repressive measures, mostly against Latinos, provoke, and of the deep polarization the country is experiencing as a result of his political agenda both nationally and internationally.
