Helen and Sefunmi already have, over at CoLab.

What if you could create a startup accelerator, but for people?

Imagine an organization that prepares students to be 10x impact makers in the world’s most important and exciting fields; quantum computing, clean energy, space travel, and more.

That’s what Navid is accomplishing with TKS.

  • #40 - The Dunning-Kruger Effect
Ever had that one friend that thinks they know everything?

They could have just started learning something, let’s say an instrument, but they feel like they’re experts.

This phenomena is called the Dunning-Kruger effect, and happens when people of low ability overestimate their strengths. They don’t know what they don’t know, and so they think they’re more advanced than they are.

Conversely, people who are actually competent tend to underestimate themselves, because they’ve seen how deep a field is.

Damien and I have definitely been on both sides of the Dunning-Kruger effect, so hopefully, our discussion on today’s episode resonates with some of you!

  • #39 - Sabrina on Inclusive Design, Meditation, and Workplace Diversity
Yesterday’s verdict of Derek Chauvin was good news, but there’s still so much work to be done.

People of color still face so many barriers; even in the tech world, which we like to think is a meritocracy.
They face a lack of representation in upper management and products that simply aren’t designed for them.

There’s a difference between a product that is “made for everyone” and a product that specifically designs for underserved communities, by bringing them into the development process.

One way to remove those barriers is through Inclusive Design. Today’s episode feature’s Sabrina Mehrally, a designer who’s been focusing on people at the margins for years.

Sabrina’s done some groundbreaking work focusing on how to make the tech world more inclusive through design and hiring. I think it’s a valuable listen for everyone in the tech space!
