Cryptocurrency’s extraordinary recent run from US $1 trillion to US $3 trillion in value has attracted lots of new investors, drawn by the potential for huge profits and a culture defined by risk-taking.
Kathleen Breitman, co-founder of Tezos, Pascal Gauthier, CEO of Ledger, and Tim Draper, founder of Draper Associates, are long-standing proponents of the decentralised tender. They have exercised this belief in the power of cryptocurrencies by developing and investing in new solutions driving the industry forward at a rate faster than ever seen before.
In this episode, our panel of experts discuss what’s next for an industry that has traditionally been unpredictable and volatile.

Is there a better, more fun way to get your exercise? Freeletics’ CEO Daneil Sobhani and FitXR co-founder and CEO Sam Cole are trying to find out.
After the holiday season, many of us will be signing up for gym memberships and trying to budge some of that festive flab. Research shows that there are a disproportionate number of sign-ups in January, with a sharp drop off in the following months as New Year’s resolutions fade away. So how do we stick to those goals year-round?
In this episode, these two fitness experts explain how tech can make exercise a more immersive, less tedious experience for us all - an experience that suits any skill level.
Daneil Sobhani and Sam Cole were speaking on the Healthconf stage at Web Summit 2021, in conversation sports broadcaster Emma Jones
This week’s episode was hosted by Web Summit’s Luke Prendeville.

Why do some people refuse to wear masks? Why are others convinced that the Covid-19 vaccine is, at best, ineffective and, at worst, that it contains a microchip used by Bill Gates in order to track people? Dorry Segev, professor of epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, thinks part of the fear and misinformation around public health measures is down to “a failure to find common, compassionate ground”.
Scientists and public health officials should be reaching people at their level and this means no more dry, finger-wagging tones, he says. Dorry himself uses music as a medium. In this episode of The Next Stage, from Web Summit, he treats us to a rendition of Memory from the musical Cats - but with a covid-19 spin!

Would you ditch your Christmas turkey and ham in favour of plant-based alternatives? The inventor of the Impossible Burger certainly hopes so.
The Impossible Burger has been hailed as the most convincing veggie version of a juicy beef burger because of its taste, texture and meaty appearance. And the company’s chicken nuggets have been chosen over real chicken nuggets in blind taste tests.
Patrick Brown, the man behind these creations, quit his job as a professor at Stanford in order to found Impossible Foods, because he is passionate about helping “avert total collapse of biodiversity and catastrophic climate change”.
He thinks the key to reducing emissions is to curb intensive livestock farming and this means winning over meat lovers (with soy because you can’t win friends with salad).
In this episode of The Next Stage podcast, from Web Summit, Patrick talks about how it is possible to reverse the climate impact of animal agriculture, and how Impossible Foods has been busy creating its version of not just beef burger and chicken nuggets but also sausages, ground pork and… unicorn meat?
Patrick Brown was speaking on the main stage at Web Summit 2021, in conversation with Andy Serwer, editor in chief for Yahoo Finance.

Should Mark Zuckerberg step down as CEO of Meta (formerly known as Facebook)? Frances Haugen, the whistleblower who leaked the Facebook Papers, thinks so.
Her crisis of conscience led her to lift the lid on the social media company’s opaque practices around moderating hate speech and misinformation, bringing her concerns in front of lawmakers by testifying in US Congress and the UK House of Lords that “Facebook has been unwilling to accept even little slivers of profit being sacrificed for safety”.
In this episode, Frances talks about the accusation from Facebook that the papers were not only stolen, but cherrypicked, and about how the company has made safety on its platform a false choice between censorship and free speech.
Frances Haugen was speaking at Web Summit 2021, in conversation Libby Liu, the CEO of Whistleblower Aid and Laurie Segall, co-founder and Executive Producer at Dot Dot Dot Media.
