Nextmen Podcast 16: Bringing the party to wherever you are. There's been some talk, ok only one FB gibbering but our ears are always wide open & we like to listen. We'd like to address the question involved in a more philosophical way. Why aren't our podcasts more like our mixed tapes, like the seemingly well liked Personal Golf Instructions or Children's Introduction To Jazz? To answer the question with a question, what is better, a pineapple or a banana? Both are sweet, equally weird & hilarious, can make you feel good, can be carried round with you in some sort of pocket or sling device & are delicious to rock. They're different things. We're happy that some folks think our mixtapes are classics & we will probably keep making them til we're deafer than Dixie (we get we're long overdue!), but the idea of the podcast was never a Nextmen mix, it was us selecting new, underrepresented & personally beloved tunes that could be heard in a full format, strung together purely by mood or feeling & the connection one track has to the next, irrespective of venue or timeslot or preferred party BPMs & without either track having to eat into each other or be blended for the sake of style. So not like our mixtapes, not like our DJ sets. No quick'n'themix tricks & skills on show - not even back announcing, just a tracklist you can read and a quick hi & bye so you know we still care that you're listening & we hope, a boss selection of tunes that can be appreciated as that. I guess we also figure, sometimes everyone needs an hour just for themselves & some tunes - on the train to work, in the car on commute, cooking Tuesday dinner, in the tub, downtime on the oil rig (Hi Jim!), having some solo booze time, whatever. These podcasts are meant to be like little gifts of time for you. And they're free, so snap. This month's starts with a roll of slow burners but ends up feeling like you're inside the sun. Pack a cold towel for the burning heat. Enjoy!
