There are so many things you, as a parent, can do to help your baby while they’re in NICU. Whether it’s being in the room during medical procedures or getting more skin-to-skin contact, you don’t just have to leave their care to the medical staff. Joining us on the podcast today for a talk all around improving your baby’s care and development in the neonatal unit is Inga Warren, a pioneer in the field of neonatal care, with over 30 years of experience in infant care. She is a primary author and co-director of the Family and Infant Neurodevelopmental Care Programme, FINE, and with her background in occupational therapy and a passion for early intervention, Inga has been a key figure in helping to shape neonatal care on an international scale.

Our guest, Cristina became a first-time mother at 40 – to premature twins. Even with her doctorate in psychology, she wasn’t prepared for the conflicting emotions and mental challenges she faced, not just during pregnancy but after she took her babies home, too. The lack of support she received inspired her to focus on helping other parents through the same experience. In today’s conversation, there is a strong focus and open discussion about “negative” emotions and why they are so normal and expected, and also why there really isn’t a perfect way to be a parent!
So if you’re a parent of multiples, or sometimes feel shame about the emotions that come up for you, this chat with Cristina will help to reassure you that you’re not alone in the way you might be feeling.

The loss of a child is an unimaginable pain, and losing a baby who is a twin, triplet, or multiple is an incredible grief that hugely affects families. Our two guests today, Millie and Heather, went through that impossibly hard situation themselves, and together are growing the Skye High Foundation into something that will one day be seen in every hospital around the world. They created the purple butterfly cot card, which is to be placed in an incubator or cot in memory of their sibling. The cot card is used in conjunction with a poster that is placed around maternity and neonatal units, which explains the meaning of the purple butterfly. The cot card allows families the opportunity to make others around them aware of the journey they are going through. If you would like to get support from them or help spread the word, all the links to connect with them can be found in the show notes for this episode.

It's final episode of Season 2 and we're delving into what it's like to be spending Christmas in a neonatal intensive care unit.
Katie's daughter was born five days before Christmas, 13 weeks early. Christmas Day was a particularly difficult time for the family as they watched their little girl battling for her life. She fought hard and came home ten weeks later.
Katie found the run up to her daughter's first Christmas at home particularly tough and talks to us about how she got through it and how she is feeling this year.
The episode is full of hope and ends with a special thank you to our listeners for joining us for season 2. Season 3 is coming soon!

This week on the podcast, we talk to Lorna. Lorna is a NICU mum and the co-founder of SuperDinky/@superdinkyuk a clothing brand which makes super soft organic cotton vests for tiny babies.
She has a background in fashion design and started the brand with a neonatal nurse (Beth, who has already been on the podcast) following her own NICU experience. The brand has two aims, to make the world's best NICU baby clothes and to support the mental health of NICU parents.
Lorna says she believes that NICU parents do not get sufficient mental health support so she sees SuperDinky as a way to connect parents, build community and bring them a moment of joy during a potentially traumatic experience.
Earlier this year Lorna had an unexpected home birth at 37 weeks with her second baby after live blogging her pregnancy. She is here to talk about her NICU experience with her first baby, her mental health journey, SuperDinky and about having a full term baby after NICU.
Thank you for sharing Lorna!
