It is only in recent years that the modern entertainment landscape has discovered the characters we create in sci-fi, fantasy, and other fantastic worlds can only be fully explored not through just literature, but also through other mediums as well. It makes sense then that this would expand into web3 and we would leverage blockchain technology and the benefits it provides to facilitate the exploration of strange worlds. Today, we have with us the co-creator and artist for one such new strange world, Forgotten Runes. Welcome to the show ElfJTrul.

01:00 - It is complicated to describe everything we are doing at Forgotten Runes, but it is a project about world building. The concept of world building has been going on for a very long time, but what we are doing that is new is that we’ve decentralized the whole process of world building with tens of thousands of characters, owned by our community as NFTs. 

02:06 - Physical comic books, NFT characters, dice, games… what aren’t you doing here? 

03:40 - Many projects declare they have a collaborative narrative construction, but it really comes down to a poll. How is your community different?

Preventing discontinuity between the stories isn’t a huge factor because of the magical nature of the world, the ability for time travel, and more. Every media franchise has discontinuity, even Batman, for example. 

09:20 - The timeless archetypes within the franchise enable and create continuity even accidentally. There’s an eerie synchronicity between the stories because they’re based on ancient archetypes. 

11:09 - You have games coming, too. A battle game, land sales, and more. What are some of the features planned for the game?

14:00 - We are developing a show with an impressive writer named Derrick Colstad, the creator of the John Wyck franchise. He also wrote this awesome film on Netflix called “Nobody”.

15:55 - Outside of the synchronicity and the individual stories, is there a single overarching narrative that defines the entire property? 

17:00 - One of the biggest themes of the whole project is exploring the connection between the Runeverse to the Real World. It is a commentary on how meat space interacts with metaspace. It is about how we as humans identify as our avatars in the digital space. What does it literally mean, what does it mean as our real physical reality is intersecting with our digital reality and digital reality becomes more and more real in comparison to our physical reality.

The metaverse promises social connection on steroids; very effective when we are all locked in on quarantine, which hopefully never happens again. There are some projects seeking to really be on the frontlines of web3 social. One such project I discovered last week is Bit Hotel. Kareem de Vries, Head of Partnerships, is here today to talk about Bit Hotel as a new social metaverse gaming environment powered by NFTs.

Filecoin is the decentralized storage network designed to store humanity's most important information. Jonathan Victor is the head of NFTs at Filecoin to share the trends, usage, and what the future looks like for NFTs.

In the five years I’ve been watching NFTs, I have seen a lot of projects launch. I’ve seen some that have exploded and some that have been epic fails. What I love to see is a project I get into that has the legs to stick around and truly work out and develop their roadmap. This is the case for SuperYetis. I minted three SuperYetis over a year ago and not only have these guys survived, they are thriving and have airdropped additional NFTs to holders, have land, and more announcements around what they’re doing.

SuperYeti is the first 10K, 3D NFT. We are the home of the meme-lords & sh*t posters, the artists and builders. We're the original NFT meme project and the only thing we're serious about is building!

We recently dropped three big announcements, our current and on going Land Quarry sale, Yeti Bomber (video game) and Seddona, a marketplace for games like Steam but for web3.

Today we are going to bring you the literary wonders of NFTs. As Travis and I have talked about for some time, there are so many different ways to bring utility in the NFT space. The web3 world is amazing, connecting experiences, people and communities to NFTs, metaverses, games; there’s so much going on. It was about a year ago that I encountered a project called Jenkins the Valet and The Writers Room. The Writers Room is accessible by members with a pass, enabling collaboration with parent company Tally Labs, to write literary wonders together. 

Jenkins the Valet is an Ape inspired derivative project. Our guests, Safa and Valet Jones, are co-founders of Tally Labs. Once upon a time, in the early lands of the Internet, in the pre-web2 world, there was a file sharing service which you may remember the name of if you had been on the interwebs in the 2003-2010 era called LimeWire. Well, Limewire came up against all kinds of legal troubles because of their file sharing, and ended up having to shut down. They are back in the web3 world with an open music and entertainment marketplace.  We are internet OG’s and old enough to remember file sharing. 

The brand has been revitalized with an entirely new team behind it and translated to web3. We’re joined by Marcus Feistl to talk about the old turned new. We can only wonder how other Internet OG brands will be reborn for web3.
