A surveillance camera catches Brian Schaffer outside a packed Columbus bar at 1:55 a.m. He chats with two women, looks relaxed, turns toward the entrance, and steps out of frame. Then the story stops cooperating. No clear footage of him leaving. No calls to his girlfriend. No spring break flight to Miami. No bank activity. Just a 27-year-old Ohio State medical student who becomes a name on posters and a face frozen in a few seconds of grainy video.

We take this case slowly and on purpose, because Brian is a real person and the difference between fact and rumor is the difference between help and harm. We map the Ugly Tuna Saloona and the South Campus Gateway complex, talk about why 2006 surveillance coverage creates the illusion of certainty, and explain how a missing “next step” can trap an investigation for decades.
