Legend of the Candyman: Candyman 1992  Revisited: Everything You Need to Know Before Nia DaCosta's New Film. Revisit the original Candyman before watching its “spiritual sequel” with us live!  While the original Candyman has had two other sequels — Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995) and Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999) — DaCosta’s film seems to be a direct continuation from the first rather than building on the other films of the franchise. So, with the new Candyman coming out later this month, there’s no better time than now to go back to the original 1992 film, especially since Abdul-Mateen II’s role as 2021’s protagonist has a significant and direct connection to the first.

The film takes place during the war with the machines and shares no ties to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; while it references both Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, it keeps those references vague. Suspiria 1977 uses color as a part of its plot in a way that films almost never do, let alone so effectively. There’s hardly a frame of Argento’s Suspiria that doesn’t feature at least a glimmer of red somewhere. The walls of the demented ballet school that serves as the film’s nightmarish setting are blood red, both inside and out. When the walls aren’t red, the backlighting is, frequently casting a red glare over everything. The lipstick on the pale faces of Suspiria’s unwary ballerinas, and their nail polish, is red.
