Israeli band Cnaque/Pop, which operated from 1994 to 1999 in Tel Aviv, never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Although it was the hottest band of its time, performing dozens of times and having many hits, a trendy party line and fans, its childish behavior and the conservatism of the record companies meant that it never released an album in real time.
Today, almost 20 years after its founding and after the band had gained a certain mythological reputation among an audience that had not attended any of its performances, the band members decided to release that Rock-N-Roll album of that long gone period, to give it a chance.
“The Last Interesting Revolution” is based on studio recordings, demos, and a few performances and rehearsals. Surprisingly, the music has not aged. On the contrary, it sounds more refreshing, edgy and contemporary today than ever, perhaps because Israeli music has only moved backwards since the 1990s. The lyrics are still bright, the guitars produced by Ram Orion and others are still hot, and the combination of Glam Rock, Disco Punk and old-school Israeli Mizrahi music within Britpop is still original.
The fact that the band had a trendy message and even spun the pre-hipster line "We're not a band, we're hair stylists, this isn't a song, this is a shirt, give us money" has no contest today. Almost everything has become more boring and grayer.
Beyond the fact that the album will provide an opportunity to listen to beautiful songs that have been lost, it's an opportunity to make a small historical correction, a kind of archaeological salvage dig: to remind you that somewhere in the nineties there were some snobs in suits who tried to do something different, with bright Technicolor dreams, and failed. So let's repeat the request in the song: give us money.
In short:
The best band in the world. Formed in 1994, it played countless shows but miraculously managed to miss every opportunity that came its way to sign with a record company or label. Cnaque/Pop went through several incarnations - from punk rock to Britpop to glam rock. It disbanded in 1999. All of its members (except one) went on to have successful journalism careers.
