While much of the internet focused on Josh Howerton using ladders as sermon props, I believe many people missed the heart of his message. Are we fully following Jesus Christ, being led by the Holy Spirit, and living according to God’s Word—or are we trying to live for God while still holding on to the flesh and the world? As we discuss the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, the Apostles’ Creed, and the uncertainty facing America and our world, we are reminded that our ultimate hope cannot be placed in politicians, nations, money, or earthly security. Our hope must be built on Jesus Christ and the Word of God.The Church must prepare people not only for difficult and glorious days ahead, but ultimately to meet Jesus Christ face to face. In this message, we examine Josh Howerton’s ladder sermon and challenge ourselves to take an honest inventory of our spiritual lives, marriages, families, priorities, and relationship with God. In this devotional, we explore Week Four, Day One of Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day by Peter Scazzero, focusing on the theme of patient trust and the slow work of God. Through the story of Abraham, we see that living by faith often means waiting on God when His promises seem slow to unfold. Abraham’s journey reminds us that God’s timing is different from ours, and spiritual maturity requires learning to trust Him even when we cannot yet see where He is leading. We use Pierre Teihard de Chardin work called Patient Trust. He urges us to: “Above all, trust in the slow work of the God…. And accept the anxiety of feeling yourself in suspense and incomplete”. The spiritual life is not one of control but of trust in the Lord.

If you are in a season of waiting on God, trusting His timing, or wondering why His plan is taking so long, this Christian devotional is for you. We’ll look at Abraham’s faith journey and discover how patience, surrender, and trust can deepen our relationship with the Lord. God may be working more slowly than we would like, but that does not mean He is not working. Learning to trust the slow work of God is part of learning to walk by faith.
