* Remedy Entertainment has signed a global development deal with Tencent for a co-operative multiplayer game codenamed Vanguard. The game will be a free to play PvE shooter that “combines Remedy’s narrative expertise and action gameplay into an immersive multiplayer experience.” The game will be developed with the Unreal Engine for the PC and consoles. Remedy will develop and publish the game worldwide, except in selected Asian markets, where Tencent will localize and publish the game. The game is currently at the proof-of-concept stage and its budget is said to be in the range of a AAA game. The financing will be coming from both Remedy and Tencent. Tencent will have the worldwide rights to develop and publish a mobile version of the game, and they will cover the costs of doing so.

* Andrew Kıya with Silicon Era reports that Hideo Kojima has teased that he has two new games in development. There was column that came out in Famitsu where he teased these bits of information. Nothing specific was detailed though. Specifically he said, “A big title, and a title that’s a new challenge,” when talking about his plans for 2022. He continued, “As the boundaries of entertainment disappear in the near future, I’d like to make this a year that we take a step forward into challenging different mediums and expressions.”

* Stan Hogeweg with Gamerant reports that Sonic Frontier’s release date has possibly been leaked. In a recent Playstation database update November 15th 2022 was revealed as a possible date. Though it was noted in the article that the date could just be a placeholder and not really signify anything.

* William D’Angelo with VG Chartz reports that the Nintendo Switch has officially crossed the 100 million worldwide hardware sales threshold. For the week ending December 18th the Switch sold 1,314,674 units according to VG Chartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch is the seventh video game platform to cross the 100 million mark, which includes Playstation 1, 2, and 4, the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Game Boy, and Nintendo Wii.
* The Playstation 5 sold an estimated 541,290 units to bring its lifetime total to 16.68 million units.
* The Xbox Series X|S compared to the Xbox One for the same week are down by nearly 67,000 units.
* The Playstation 4 sold 715,000 units for the week ending December 20, 2014 and the Xbox One sold 525,948 units.
