On this episode, Jessica explores the “Not Deer” of the Appalachian Mountains. A Not Deer is what appears to be a deer, but it’s not quite a deer. At first glance, it looks like a deer, but upon further investigation, something is off about its behavior and anatomy. They often move like a newborn deer with extra-long legs, and some appear double-jointed. Their eyes sit towards the front of their head like a predator instead of on the sides like typical deer. Not Deers are not typically afraid of humans. Some report an uneasy feeling that there is an intelligence and emotion about them that shows that something is off about the creatures. They’re known to walk on two legs and will chase people if provoked.

Tales of Not Deer encounters range from hunters and hikers coming face to face with them in the woods to Not Deers peeking in windows of homes in the Appalachians. Are these Not Deer merely deformed or diseased deer or could they be a Skinwalker or something else? We can add the Not Deer to the list of creepy Appalachian cryptids.
