In this episode, Aliya chats with Dr. Quozette Valera aka Dr. Q about:
This is one of the most eye-opening conversations on the podcast so far; it's a must-listen for those who are pro-life, pro-choice, or wanting to learn more about the fight for reproductive justice.
About Dr. Q:
Quozette Valera (aka Dr. Q) is a national speaker, international educator/mentor, and licensed physical therapist practicing in Long Beach, CA specializing in the
treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and conditions that affect the bladder, bowel, and reproductive systems. She works closely with patients as they navigate through pregnancy and postpartum recovery, and having witnessed how isolating and overwhelming this experience can be, she felt called to pursue further training as a childbirth educator and postpartum doula through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA). Combining her clinical experience with her trainings in birthwork, she developed and created her own comprehensive childbirth &
postpartum education class: Birth & Beyond by Q. In 2022, Dr. Q presented at the AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses) National
Conference educating nurses on proper pushing strategies for managing second stage labor, and spent two weeks lecturing and mentoring pelvic floor physiotherapists in
Nairobi, Kenya with the Jackson Foundation. Because this work involves discussing the most intimate and important parts of daily life, which—for most people—is a difficult conversation to have, she is passionate about increasing awareness about pelvic health through education, movement and a little bit of humor to help normalize talking about our bodies and inspire people to advocate for their health and wellbeing.
