Mike used Twitter and TikTok to discuss how an electric vehicle station that BofA installed is shining horrible green lights into his family's apartments.. I discuss why the EV station exists, the mindset as to why they even have it there, and basically pointing out what Mike should do.

I discuss the Tara Siegel Bernard article in the NY Times about how certain banks are changing their view on overdraft fees, offering alternatives in light of Ally doing away with OD fees.

The main thing I discuss is the Balance Assist program from Bank of America, how it is actually impacting more people negatively because of its rigid terms. I also discuss how the numbers show that OD fees impact a disproportionate number of POC and lower-income people. Plus we get into the 2017 Washington Post Article where we find out the former CEO of TCF Bank named his boat "Overdraft"....Sigh

I also discuss an elephant in the room: That smaller banks make a bigger portion of their revenue on overdraft fees, and we discuss how this needs to be addressed as well.

Then, I talk about a listener question regarding finding ways to be able to purchase a car when your budget doesn't allow it. I get into a frank discussion about secondary and passive income, especially these days where collectible markets are rising, onlyfans is prominent, and Twitch gamers make thousands.... Mainly I discuss the benefits of donating plasma is cities where a center is available. I discuss how it supplemented my income, and then became a full-fledged part of how I piece together my budget, and I discuss plans for the listener on how he can tackle this hurdle. I love talking about issues like this, because I found myself in them often growing up!

Plus, an article in Business Insider from Dakin Campbell enlightened me and made me cry crocodile tears for the infamous BofA home loan staff. Many are quitting because of increased duties, cuts in bonus money and elimination of commission which will infuriate the sales staff who cherry pick who to help, burning poor homeowners in the process. I discuss the article, some things that weren't 100 percent right with it, some that were, and how BofA is monitoring their staff by recording their sales calls.

Today we talk about some big wins for consumers:

First, Online bank Ally announced last week that Overdraft Fees are going away! They made the announcement and was met with widespread praise online.

Of course, Ally was once GMAC, named after one of the biggest companies in the world, but I am not knocking it. What their people said about why they are doing this elimination of fees hit the right notes, and it will serve as a mandate for other big banks to follow suit hopefully. I talk about how although only about 20,000 customers of theirs overdrafted, and it likely didn't cost them much money to do this, it's still HUGE.

Plus we talk about a federal judge in California slapping an injunction on BofA for California Unemployment EDD and how it's going to help 1000s of people access their money faster. I discuss how the bank has used their fraud algorithm to screw over so many people and use it to avoid refunding fees as well. I also talk about a certain employee speaking for Bank of America who has a SEVERE CONFLICT OF INTEREST in this story and it seems like no one ever talks about it. I do...

Breaking News as Bank of America ONCE AGAIN announces a starting wage increase. Last Year, they got to $20, and this year they announce an increase to $25/hr by 2025. 

While it sounds all well and good, I discuss how this means THE END of tellers as we know it, as everyone on the branch level will be a skilled salesperson. I talk about the immense pressure that will only get worse as the wages go up. I also talk about how there will seemingly be mass layoffs and more closures of branches.

I also talk about how the branch managers of the world and people above the basement at BofA will actually not get as hefty an increase which will lead to those people leaving, to replace them with newcomers who start at $25/hr.

I then talk about an interesting aspect of this, which is Bank of America mandating their "vendors" pay a $15/hr wage as well. This can be construed as Bank of America believes the minimum wage will be $15/hr at some point, as a lot of vendor employees make $9-$10 an hour now. I also talk about the small, mostly rural areas where these vendor call centers operate may close or end their contract with BofA as a result of this mandated "pay hike". Curious to see how this impacts service as well.

Basically, I discuss how protests of corporate branch decisions are done incorrectly at the branch, and how that actually lessens the voice of those protesting, and actually puts innocent employees of the evil big banks in peril for no reason. I talk about past incidents I was a part of and how to properly project your voice to a big bank.

I also ponder my theory that because of the cost of dealing with habitual overdrafters, that banks are doing what they can to push those people out as it costs more to service them on top of refunding the fee!

Opening:

I talk about earnings at JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo being INSANE so far, with Bank of America to come. It's asotounding.

2nd Segment:

I talk about the death of Bernie Madoff and I spent 20 minutes talking about how excess is toxic in finance and how he spent a lifetime cultivating a story and a lifestyle to impress people, including women.

I talk about the shitty situation my unemployment situation is. Wells Fargo runs state of New Mexico's UI system, and I am experiencing very Wells Fargo things. I called the 1-800 over 1000 times over a year, never getting through, and my wife gets through within 5 calls on my behalf. I submit my IDs and I expect a quick decision, and then as of today, I got to reapply, and all of a sudden the $17,000 balance isn't there, and I am freaking out. Pray for me! :)

4th Segment:

I talk about Bank of America exploiting a $1,000 Donation (It's not a donation when you exchange money for product) to the Girl Scouts of America and how the news article exploits it as well, basically making an ad for Bank of America in the process!

I discuss the total exploitation of a girl scout video to hype up the donation as groundbreaking when it was just a normal purchase, as Bank of America touts all these virtues they are teaching the girls by just handing them the money. Plus, I also get into their alleged donation of "SOME" cookies to the Bakersfield Homeless Center, which is tone deaf af. Give them socks, toiletries, real food, not cookies!

I also talk about BofA Employees in Visalia, CA who donated 800 feminine hygiene products to a woman's shelter, an INCREDIBLY noble cause and I am glad they did that. But it was the EMPLOYEES who did it, not the bank... Cue Bank of America exploiting this to the Nth degree and basically making a mountain out of a topic that frankly needs to be discreet based on the nature of the place they donated to. I talk about how Bank of America can and SHOULD do more that Tweet about it.
