The protagonist, Sam, meets Tom at Ambrose Law School. Tom is a potential love interest for Sam and acts as his foil in many different ways: while Sam is talkative, over the top, obsessed with the theatre, and isn't sure what he really wants to do with his life despite being in law school, Tom is calm, collected, and focused on academics as well as athletics. Tom and his brother Herman are of mixed Aleut, Russian, and English descent. His father, Fred, is 3/4 Aleut, and 1/4 Russian, while his mother, Charlotte, is of English descent. They are all Americans and hail from a small town in Alaska, Unalaska, the biggest city in the Aleutian Islands.
Hope you enjoy me sharing my ideas about Tom and his family in this video! Stay tuned for more Sims brainstorming sessions related to the "Sam in New York" project.
Today, we’ll be having Tete.Depunk and Helevorn on this show!
They will be having a conversation about worldbuilding, whether that’s in historical fiction or in fantasy works. Tete and Helevorn will also be talking about how to avoid stereotypes in works, for example, how to avoid stereotypical portrayals of Vikings, Cossacks, and other “types,” since it can be easy to fall into literary shorthand when writing about these kinds of characters.
Tete.Depunk is the author of a fantasy work, “Gerda and the Frost Lord” as well as two historical works about Cossacks, “The White Crow Rides a Black Horse” (which is about Gleb, the 17-18th century Cossack) and “70 Fierce Years” (which is about Andrei, Gleb’s descendent from early 20th century Soviet Union).

Helevorn is the author of a series of historical works set in the Viking Age, such as the short novel “Lucky Wolf”, her larger project, “Sons of Disobedience”, as well as a series of short stories, all linked together through common themes and characters. In recent times, Vikings have entered the mainstream in films or video games. In building the world of her stories, Helevorn has come across several stereotypes related to this topic, which she will talk about today.

We talk about the concept of the Melting Pot in American society and the role of the Melting Pot in "Sam in New York." We also discuss the character of Katya Luneva in "Sam in New York." Katya is one of Sam's potential love interests and unlike Sam (who was born in America to immigrant parents), she is an immigrant herself. We learn more about her personality in this episode and about how and why she and Sam become interested in one another.

We segue into how I've balanced historical elements and research with a character-driven narrative and how I did my historical research for my project (academic journals, oral histories found on YouTube and other sites, etc.).
