Sashen and I discuss the pervasiveness of topical steroid phobia and hesitancy in dermatology patients, and how we might address this issue. I also speak with Prof Jerry Shapiro from the NYU Grossman School of Medicine about the latest in androgenetic alopecia and scarring alopecia; and he also gives us advice on running a successful WCD, as he was the President of the WCD in Vancouver in 2015.

Ellie and I discuss her current research on investigating what contributes to discordant disease severity gradings between dermatologists and their patients.

In this season, I aim to speak with all Heads of Dermatology Departments across Singapore to get a overview of the dermatology specialty in Singapore. In this episode, I speak with Clin Asst Prof Tan Ki Wei, the newest Head of Changi General Hospital Dermatology Department about his new role, and his plans for the future.

Sashen and I discuss how to increase access to dermatological services in underserved and underprivileged populations, and I speak with Professor Henry Lim, vice-chairman of the WCD 2023 Scientific Program and past president of both the AAD and ADA. We discuss the upcoming ILDS World Skin Summit, Global Dermatology, and his interests in phototherapy and photoprotection.

We are back for Season 2!

Sashen and I discuss the much overlooked carers of our dermatology patients, and how we might be able to support them. And I speak with Dr Nisha Suyien Chandran, who heads the Division of Dermatology at the National University Hospital of Singapore, and the practice of dermatology in a large tertiary hospital.

It seems as if there is a new scare about sunscreens every other week - this time it's whether zinc oxide sunscreens become ineffective and toxic 2 hours after application. Ellie and I discuss why it's important to treat these sensationalist claims with skepticism. I also speak with Dr Mark Lebwohl who is a renowned dermatologist from Mt Sinai in New York City about patient advocacy groups in dermatology, new treatments for inflammatory skin diseases, and the importance of diversity in dermatology.

Dermatology education and textbooks have been called out for the lack of diversity in clinical images. Sashen and I discuss how dermatologists and trainees need to keep this in mind during our training and daily practice.

I also speak with A/Prof Tey Hong Liang, who is the Head of Research at the National Skin Centre. Our center was recently awarded a prestigious Centre Grant for Research and Prof Tey discusses how this will be implemented, and discusses some of his areas of interest.
