  • 6. Natural Dyes and Deconstructed Bonnets

Our brilliant costume designer Grace Snell and director Georgia Oakley talk to producer Jo Wallett. This is a fascinating insight into all the inspired choices, curations and creations that went into establishing the ‘look’ of the movie through costume. From deciding to set this adaptation in the late 1790s - a transitionary period for fashion, to the palette emerging through the use of natural dyes, the fresh takes on bonnets, and conveying a feeling of intimacy, sisterhood and relatability through how our Dashwood women dress, reuse and share cherished items of clothing.

    Notes:

Grace Snell joined the conversation from a remote part of Scotland, with some occasional patchy wifi!

In this episode Georgia also speaks to the approach with Hair & Make Up Design for this adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, and how she collaborated with our talented designer Nadia Stacey, who had hoped to join this conversation but was busy on set!
