In a world where the wants are many, Jesus tells us there is only one thing needed. That one thing might surprise us. It’s not something we need to stay alive physically, like food or water, but it’s something we need in order to live eternally: the Word. Through the story of Jesus at the home of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38–42, we see how Jesus sets our priorities straight, which then frees us to love and serve joyfully.
