After completing some chores at the Parson's place, Laura is given a choice for payment: Cold Hard Cash OR A Spalpeen type goat... She names the goat Fred and takes him home.  In less than 24 hours,  Laura is set to task with finding Fred a home far away from Plum Creek.  And what a task it is. It's finally decided to let Fred run free and in a strange way this goat finds a way to say thank you Laura for everything she has done.  Where did Mr. Edwards learn how to distill his own alcohol?
