In today’s message, Pastor David explains Paul’s teaching on marriage and singleness found in 1st Corinthians. Paul recognized that marriage may be the best path for some, and this relationship does demand commitment. On the other hand, singleness is upheld as a calling for some that allows for a greater focus on the work of the Lord. In either direction of life, the spirit of God within us transforms our relationships so that they are blessing and bring glory to God.

In today’s message, Pastor David teaches from 1st Corinthians when Paul admonishes the believers against suing one another. The believers were not seeking reconciliation and healing as God would desire; rather, they were tearing one another down as the world would do. How believers treat one another, both then and now, is evidence of how we are living out our salvation. Treating others with kindness, grace, and the wisdom of God is what is best for others and our own spirit.

Those in the church were not acting any different than anyone else, and instead of seeking reconciliation they were dragging each other to court. The church in Corinth was a busy place with much activity, and according to Paul’s writing, the church also had a lot of knowledge and understanding of God. However, with all the church had going for it they were missing the point – all Christians are united with God in love. Today Pastor David encourages us all to be sure we do not miss that key ingredient as well. We can’t boast in ourselves but in God alone for all He has done in and for us!

Paul desired to see the Christians treat each other with love and humility rather than pride and arrogance. The Corinthian church members were creating division over opinions and preferences. The church then had many of the same issues we have today. We must keep our focus upon God because God gives us what brings us together!

People in the Corinthian church had created cliques centered around their favorite teacher, which lead to arguments about who to follow. Paul reminded them and us today that we are united in our pursuit of Jesus, not divided by our preferences or traditions.

Are you able to serve God? Do you have particular talents or abilities? All that we have is because of God; therefore, there is no room for arrogance or pride or division for any possession or ability we have. However, today Pastor David reminds us that there is great room for rejoicing in the work of God in his church! Wherever we see God at work is a blessing and evidence that God chooses to dwell among us. So, it is by the spirit of God that we find our direction and life!
