Get ready to dive into Yule magic with Sara Haydon! Sara is an author and advocate for slow, intentional living.  Her debut book, Winter Magic: A Witch’s Yule (Atlantic Books, 2024), explores the intersection of nature, seasonal living and personal spirituality. With a background in Psychology and years of experience in mental health and offender rehabilitation, she now writes and supports others on their journeys of inner transformation. From her cabin in the Finnish woods or while wandering the English countryside with her family, Sara shares moments of everyday magic on her much-beloved Instagram platform, @HawthornHollows

Sara thought about how magic shows up in her everyday life and combined with her Finnish heritage shares it in her book to make her Yule magic accessible to everyone. We delve into Sara’s book: Winter Magic: A Witch’s Yule.  She felt inspired to create and foster a celebration for the Winter Solstice. She wanted to create a book that was gentle, grounding and enchanting for readers to navigate this season and sample different Witchcraft aspects while going through the journey of Yule. Since Sara grew up in Finland, she wrote her book from a unique Nordic perspective where the magic and mysticism of Yule mixes with nostalgia, coziness, folklore and a deep relationship with nature.

Yet there is the paradox between the darkness of December, the returning of the light at Winter Solstice as well as reconnecting with spirit(s) and old ways. Yule is very rich in mythology folklore and stories especially with elves, gnomes or “Tonttu” which act as guardian spirits of household and farm and are a huge art of the Nordic folklore. Nordic deities such as Freya and Odin are part of the interplay with darkness of winter. Sara includes rituals, spells, everyday magic with her book. Honoring the deities, archetypes and their symbology honors aspects of ourselves. These traditions are rooted in gratitude, respect, balance and the reciprocity of give and take from spirits. Sara believes this is the kind of quiet, gentle pagan magic doesn't scream Witchcraft. Sara mentions that Yule/Winter Solstice doesn’t need to be ritualistic; it can be comfortable and what feels aligned for you. Honoring nature and weaving your generosity into candles, food, good wishes.

Yule magic is about folding in those moments of intention into the life you are already living in. And it can be as simple as lighting a candle with a quick intention before you start the day or drinking something warm to ground yourself.  For creating some Yule magic, you can bring in certain scents and flavors such as pine, citrus or cinnamon which shifts the energy. It’s those tiny pauses and small pockets of seasonal reminders that create magic. The Nordic traditions of Yule/Winter Solstice with the sense of coziness are so beautiful, simple and adaptable for those of us who are city Pagans/Wiccans living in small spaces or places that do not have snow or forests.

Yuletide magic is not tied to any certain landscape, country, culture or aesthetic. The Yule season is a threshold time as we shift from one cycle that is ending as we live through the darkest time of the year and now move towards lighter days which is very magical ritual in itself. Flora grew up in BC, Canada and was introduced to the Divine Feminine in 1993 attending her first Full Moon circle with her mother. She later read StarHawk’s seminal book The Spiral Dance which opened up the idea of the Neo-Pagan Wheel of the Year (the 8 sabbats). This concept and the reclaiming tradition felt right for Flora. She later went to college and studied theater/acting but then turned her focus to music and developing her skills as a singer. She got a diploma in Jazz and Contemporary Voice which was a very rich starting point for her vocal journey. A year after graduating Flora was introduced to Vocal Sound Healing which was another pivotal moment in her musical life and spiritual journey. She understood then that her voice was not just for entertainment but it could be used as a part of her sacred practice.

We delve into the role of Song Priestesses throughout history and what this role entails in contemporary times for Flora. Sound, voice, drums, music from paleolithic times have all been used by shamans and priests/priestesses and later bards for connecting to divine energy, creating sacred space and to foster community. The Song Priestess knows the power of vibrational and the energetic alchemy of sound. It's not entertainment, it's using our voices in sacred ritual through voice and sound healing to elevate our connection to the divine. Flora tells us that sound is vibrational healing and an attunement to harmonious frequencies.

We chat about Flora’s newest album: “The Center of the Pentacle” and how it focuses on Lunar Magick, New Moon, Full Moon song spells/chants and invocations to Goddesses designed to integrate with a group or personal ritual. Discover the world of Art and the Sacred Feminine with the amazing Glen Rogers! In this episode, join us as we delve into Glen’s incredible body of work that intersects with ancient Goddess symbolism, HerStory themes, Women in their power and matriarchal cultures where Priestesses ruled. Glen is an internationally exhibited painter, printmaker and public sculptor. She relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area to Mexico in 2000 and currently lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Glen has an MFA in printmaking from San Jose State University. Glen’s artwork includes large scale public art/sculptor pieces, paintings, mono prints, and drawings that are exhibited widely in the US and Internationally for over 40 plus years. Glen’s artwork is women-centric and inspired by the Sacred Feminine. For many years Glen has traveled to ancient sacred sites and has done artist residencies throughout the world.

Get ready to dive into Lunar Witchcraft with Jesamyn Angelica! Jesamyn is the founder and High Priestess of Sisterhood of the Moon, a matriarchal Goddess Tradition for all. For over thirty years, she has brought her Witchcraft practice and expertise in the Goddess Arts to her uniquely inclusive women’s empowerment work. A lifelong student trained in multiple traditions, she blends wit and humor with practical skills and cultivated wisdom to guide people of integrity toward authenticity through self-exploration. Jesamyn is the author of published by Llewellyn Worldwide, LLewellyn’s Complete Book of the Moon: Lunar Wisdom for Magic, Healing & Inspiration”  releasing in December 2025. 

Jesamyn grew up in a small, rural  New England town and went to a Catholic school run by nuns. They school had a yearly tradition of honoring Mary with a flower festival in May which was Jesanyn’s first introduction to the Goddess/Divine Feminine.  She found a copy of “The Power of the Witch” by Laurie Cabot and  Shekina Mountainwater's book: “Ariadne’s Thread” that started her on the path of Women’s Spirituality. 

We delve into Sisterhood of the Moon; Jesamyn's matriarchal Goddess community led by women for women. They have been person rituals in the San Francisco East Bay Area. Since 2010. The intent is to empower women by belonging and a shared reverence for the Goddess within and without. 

Jesamyn and I believe that Women especially now, need to feel seen, heard and witnessed. So many of us are sleep walking through the patriarchal systematic mind control that we lose ourselves in our sacrifice to capitalism and all the damage that inflicts on our souls. With sacred feminine rituals we can actively remember who we are and all that is meaningful to us and to recenter ourselves in our life’s mission. This is the power of Women focused community Moon rituals.

We talk about Moon phases and how we can mindfully engage with the lunar energies of each Moon cycle in our magickal practice. The Moon is humanity's constant reminder of perpetual change and lunar energy mirrors our lives and the never ending process of construction and deconstruction, the rising and falling  of everything we think, feel and do. All our bodies are cyclical, our energies are cyclical and we are all part of this greater cosmic rhythm whether we are aware of it or not. This is the profound power of the Moon on all of humanity and nature.

Join me on this episode as I speak with Karen Tate. Karen is a thought leader, speaker, author and activist, who bridges spirituality, personal transformation, culture and social justice. She has been named one of the Thirteen Most Influential Women in Goddess Spirituality and a Wisdom Keeper of the Women's Spirituality Movement.  She is a popular public speaker many public events on the role of the Goddess in history and in modern culture. Karen started the first Goddess tours before they were mainstream and the original and longest running Goddess-oriented radio show /podcast: Voices of the Sacred Feminine. Her several books include Walking an Ancient Path and Goddess Calling.

We begin by chatting about Karen’s early beginnings growing up in the South in New Orleans, Louisiana within a Catholic family. Later her family moved to California, and she discovered feminine faces of the Goddess in ISIS and Sekhmet. Karen became an independent scholar and studied with various Women's Goddess groups such as the Reformed Congregation of the Goddess before following her own interests.

Karen chats about how in the 90’s her and her husband were introducing people to the Goddess through the back door of sacred travel sites. They led sacred tours of the Goddess to places such as Israel, Turkey, Greece, France and England. Karen started writing travel stories which then evolved into her first book called Sacred Places of Goddess. That book kicked off her further books about how to incorporate Goddess Spirituality, spiritual psychology and sacred feminine values into one’s life or community.

Karen's mission is to educate and communicate the ideals and values of the Goddess. Partnership, collaboration, respect, equality and freedom from a dominator culture are part of sacred feminine theology that Karen learned from Riane Eisler’s iconic book: The Chalice and the Blade”. With its key message being that when we value power with rather than power over then that shifts everything. We talk about spiritual or sacred activism and what this means currently and how we can overcome rampant exploitation/abuse and oppression. Karen points out that women need archetypes and role models as many women have internal misogyny because of being damaged patriarchy. We must sit back and rethink what are our values and ethics are and what kind of world we want and then vote for people who support the issues that are important to us.

We chat about Karen’s long running radio show - now podcast, Voices of the Sacred Feminine. A weekly platform for interviews with spiritual leaders and visionaries such as Noam Chomsky, Vandana Shiva, Riane Eisler, Matthew Fox, Starhawk, etc. which is part of Karen’s mission to teach people about the big umbrella of deities, archetypes and the Sacred Feminine. H. Byron Ballard, is a Folklorist, Author, Priestess and Teacher. She has served as a featured speaker and teacher at several festivals and conferences, including the Sacred Space Conference, Pagan Spirit Gathering, Starwood, Hexfest and many others. She serves as senior Priestess and co-founder of Mother Grove Goddess Temple and the Coalition of Earth Religions/CERES, both in Asheville, NC. She podcasts about Appalachian folkways on "Wyrd Mountain Gals." Her essays are featured in several anthologies, and she writes a regular column for SageWoman Magazine. Her books include four on mountain folk magic. The first was Staubs and Ditchwater, and the most recent (2025) is A Feral Church: A Guided Journey to Find Magic, Kinship and the Goddess.

Byron  grew up in the country in North Carolina; she only saw the Goddess within the soil, trees, water and wind around her in Appalachia running in the mountains and playing in her family’s small orchard playing with crawdads and salamanders. Outside in nature is where Byron felt the divine most strongly. She  sometimes saw the Goddess as anthropomorphic. Byron never saw the divine in male form. She calls herself an Animist at heart and also a polytheist.

Her grandmother and several cousins had the sight or prophetic dreams and also the ability to interact with spirits- even though their religion was Methodist. These abilities were deeply ingrained in the culture that Byron grew up in. Appalachia’s energy is deeply magical and broad and often manifests in deep spirituality which permeates the culture. It also has some of the oldest mountains in North America and two of the oldest rivers flowing through it in the world. There many different kinds of religion there. The intersection of Indigenous, African Scottish/Irish, Welsh and German cultures contributes to a unique Appalachian spiritual culture.

We chat about Byron’s newest book A Feral Church. She wrote it after the death of Carol Christ and her work was a great inspiration to Byron. She decided it was time to write another Goddess spirituality book. This book takes us Solstice to Solstice on inner and outer journeys to meet spiritual beings and connect with the Mother Goddess. It’s about stepping out of domesticity and accessing your wild essence in our own hearts. We encounter spiritual beings who teach us about aspects of our wild spirits in different parts of the world.

We chat about her role as a Priestess at the Mother Goddess Temple In Asheville NC which is a 501c3 church. She does interfaith work and outreach as well as holding Sabbats celebrating the wheel of the year with her community there. Byron believes that the Goddess is the root and foundation of all of us and from that we do the work that we are called to do in these perilous times. The Goddess is much needed especially for Women. In this episode, I am very delighted to speak with Patricia "Trish" Telesco!
Trish is a passionate Author and fusion cook. She has been a part of the Neo-Pagan community for nearly 40 years. During that time, Trish has written several books including Victorian Grimoire, 365 Goddess, A Kitchen Witch’s Cookbook and her most recent book, Cooking with the Kitchen Witch. Her Wiccan, Witchcraft, & Pagan books provide real and practical information on magick, spells, rituals, Shamanism, animal familiars, Gods & Goddesses, Kitchen Witchery, and Earth-based spirituality. Trish considers herself a Kitchen Witch whose love of folklore flavor every spell and ritual. She believes that your kitchen is a sacred space where you can elevate even the most mundane meal prep into a spiritual ritual. Trish lives in Western New York.

We begin by chatting about Trish’s childhood where she played in fields behind the house growing up and talking to trees as a young Pagan Witchling.  She tells us that her grandmother would get up at 5am to bake amazing fresh picked berry muffins that woke the family up in the morning. There was something in the love of her baking that influenced Patricia. She remembered her mom’s roast beef and the sacred way her mom created it in their family’s kitchen and her dad baking his delicious cookies.

Trish really didn't discover the magic of cooking until she got married and realized she could not cook. And she got a cookbook from her sister and made every single recipe in that cookbook for a year. The more Trish cooked the more she loved cooking and playing with the recipes. It became …FUN. Thats when her Kitchen Witchery journey started brewing!

She wrote a small newsletter for friends and family offering recipes and after contracting a case of adult chicken pox; she had the idea to write her first and very popular Kitchen Witchery cookbook over 30 years ago called: A Kitchen Witch’s Cookbook. She sent the manuscript to Llewellyn books, and they loved it. Her cookbook was published and it set the pace for Kitchen Witchery on the literary market.

Trish has written and published over 50 Witchcraft and Pagan books as well. Trish tells us that writing is who she is. She then took a little time off and after that she wrote a follow up cookbook. We chat about her new book: Cooking with the Kitchen Witch - Magical Recipes from the Hearth and what a Kitchen Witch is.

Staging, presentation, and decorations are also a part of creating kitchen magic and feasts - especially to celebrate the seasons and the Sabbats with your family, friends and community. Trish gives us some ideas on plating or placing food on the plate as it corresponds to the elements to draw in the energies of each direction and culinary astrology. We chat about how the visual impact of food is witchery and as Trish says: we eat with our eyes.
