Publisher's Summary:
A dutiful daughter seeks a wealthy husband in this Regency romance by best-selling author Marion Chesney.
Miss Honaria Honeyford was sent to London to save the family fortune by hunting a wealthy husband, and, being a loving if not entirely dutiful daughter, she obeyed. But if she was reluctantly willing to surrender her hand, this beautiful young lady - who could ride, shoot, and argue with any man - was not about to lose her head or heart to the dismal dandies of the marriage mart. First she met the arrogantly attractive Lord Alistair Stewart, who treated her infuriatingly like a little girl. And then she met the skillfully seductive Lord Channington, who treated her intoxicatingly like a desirable woman. And now she has to choose just which role to play and just how much risk to run.

Not good.
I like romance novels and this author (sometimes), but the writing in this one was flat, there was little in the way of dialogue, and even I had trouble suspending my disbelief. As I was reading, instead of caring about the story I found myself saying to myself, "Oh, please." Seriously, the heroine sounded like a Beverly Hillbilly, the aunt was a caricature, the father was unbelievable, and for such an intelligent bluestocking, the heroine certainly is an idiot. There are so many fun books to read; don't waste your time on this one. It's not as bad as the one late Barbara Cartland book I read (Every! Sentence! At! Least! Doesn't! End! With! An! Exclamation! Point!), so it doesn't get a one star rating.
great example of the Regency genre. but no sex
if you are into 'regency' romances this one is one of the best of the type. there is no sex just kisses. however, the beauty of this story is the purity of it. the description of clothing, expressions, words, places, and situations is classic Regency. if anyone wants to read your typical Regency romance without the sexual descriptions then read this. you care about the heroine, dad, the suitor, the aunt who never knew love, and even the contemptible cad.
A Hoot!
A thoroughly charming old fashioned romances period romance. It had a headstrong and intelligent female and a strong, uncompromising older male who, despite all of intentions not to become involved, of course do so. The twist is the the heroine can actually save herself from the clutches of the evil wrongdoer. Beaton manages to take the crafty style of her present day series, Hamish Mcbeth and Agatha Raisen, and set it into a witty and entertaining romance. I enjoyed the book without being troubled with deeper concerns--what more can ask of a delightful day of reading!
Disappointing
I have read this author before and I've liked her work. In this book, however, there are good parts and bad parts. First of all I liked Honoria but I felt like she was more of a 1920's flapper with her smoking and hard drinking, and trying to keep up with the men in her father's social group. She was just not believable as a Regency deb even if she had been brought up without a mother. As was mentioned before in these reviews there were funny bits, romance, and empty-headed errors made by Honoria. This could have worked, I suppose, if I didn't get the feeling that the author was rushing to meet a deadline or a train. It all seemed too rushed.
