The Petrine revolution in Russia has been covered by the Orthodox Nationalist program in detail. However, the intellectual source of this, the Archbishop of Novgorod Theophan Prokopovich (1681-1736), certainly deserves a separate discussion. A Mason and – at best – a Lutheran, Archbishop Theophan was the intellectual ruler of Russia under Peter and Anna of Courland. He was behind the massive purges of the Russian episcopacy throughout this era that eliminated any canonical regularity in the country. The damage he inflicted through his heresy is still being felt in Russia and the Orthodox world today.
