The Table Winnipeg

The Other Side of Spring

Listen Later

Not a deep, probing sort of question…just being polite. But they are someone I know fairly well from years of library-esk interactions, so I thought I would give an unvarnished answer. I said, “I’m giddy!”. I don’t think I realized until I said it just how true it was in that moment. And upon a bit more reflection, we both concurred that it was probably about the weather. It was off and on sunny that day, and the snow was turning to water, and people were out walking around in their shirtsleeves just because they could…it felt good!

It’s also felt to me as though people have been emerging from what can be the long slog of winter with a lot of stories that are challenging. It hasn’t been an easy season for many of us. So when I heard someone share a slice of their own story about both a dark season and the slow emergence from that season, I thought it might do us all some good to hear it together.

This Sunday, our guest for the Talky Bit will be a university student named Valentina that I’ve been getting to know. I’ve been quite moved by both this woman’s story and by the way she tells it, and I’m grateful that she has agreed to come and spend the morning with us.

We’ll be at Sam’s Place, complete with the usual goodness of their fair trade coffee and the Kid’s Boardroom  Table.

Things to note:

As has been our custom, we’ll be able to share a pot-luck breakfast together on Easter Sunday morning (April 16th) at Sam’s. We’ve had to solve a couple of logistic issues because their kitchen has to be officially closed to guests, but it looks like we’ll still be able to have pancakes and bacon. I know that doesn’t excite everyone equally, but if history is any sort of guide there will be lots of other food options for the “road food” averse. The rest of the food will be pot luck…details to follow.

I’ll see you on Sunday…

Peace,

Tim
